TAG Heuer on Monday announced the release of a limited-edition cellphone, the design of which was inspired by the Lamborghini Murcielago supercar. Only 1963 examples of the MERIDIIST Automobili Lamborghini cellphone will be made worldwide to signify the founding year of Lamborghini cars. The TAG Heuer phone is made of stainless steel coated in black titanium carbide and sports the same signature as the one found on the Lamborghini Murcielago LP 640's V12 engine block. The features are not as advanced as some other handsets, and include a two-megapixel camera, media player functionality and Bluetooth. The 1.9-inch display is covered by a 60.5-carat scratch-resistant sapphire crystal panel, however. The phone's battery is said to last for seven hours of talk time and 28 days of standby power.
Not content with being the purveyor of the likes of gold and diamond encrusted mobile phones and USB flash drives; luxury manufacturer Gresso has announced what it claims to be the world's first mobile phone customization experience. By way of an online "boutique", clients have the choice of nearly 40 combinations based on three elements.
The first element is a titanium alloy and ceramic casing, with the second being various types of leather detailing. Thirdly, the keyboard design can either be totally flat or made of polished steel. The engraving of one's initials or other such inscription on the inside of the device rounds out the personalized package.
Gresso says it wants to give the "discerning user the chance to try their hand at designing their own mobile phone," but forgets about full-touch screens and Android 2.1... This one's all about the look.
The name Porsche stands for exclusivity and stylish design. The Porsche phone lives up to these standards; it is a real eye-catcher. Its weight of 140 grams does not make the P'9521 a lightweight but it makes him feel very solid. The high quality finishing is superb with materials like glass and aluminum used as a base. The tight curves with black glass and the brushed aluminum hinge provide the right finishing touch. The Porsche Design cell phone is not ultra thin but thin and compact enough with its dimensions of 91x48x18.4mm to be carried around in a trouser-pocket.
