Question about waterproofing canvas.?

I have a canvas Messenger Bag onto which I've done a great deal of illustrative work in permanent marker.

I'd like to waterproof it or protect it in some way, so as it does not become blurry or run.

Anyone have any suggestions? I need something that will not cause the ink to blur or run as it is being applied.

Have you tried a clear acrylic spray that you can buy in an art supply shop? Ask a clerk to help you choose the right kind.
BUT!! I'd do a test first on some similar material to see if the runs or blurs, before ruining your bag.
If it works fine, I'd keep applying it on a regular basis to maintain the waterproofing qualities.
