Quicken can download credit card transactions directly from a ton of credit card companies so you won't need to input anything except cash and checks. (I think it can also download checking activity for certain banks)

Another option if you have a PDA is Pocket Quicken - never used it but you could probably input purchases as you make them so you wouldn't have to bring things home.

Prada was established in 1913 by Mario Prada in Italy. The company Fratelli Prada, Italian for Prada Brothers, started designing and creating their range of leather handbags and goods from two boutiques in Milan many years before Prada became a well known fashion brand. After Mario, who believed against women interacting with business, passed away, his son had no interest in the company, so it was inherited by his daughter-in-law where it was maintained for nearly 20 years. In 1978 her own daughter, Miuccia Prada took over the company. Miuccia, Mario's granddaughter, at the time had a PhD in political science, although no other qualifications a top designer may expect. Miuccia did have some experience in making bags, as she made backpacks from black nylon for a few years prior to taking over.

She had previously met Patrizio Bertelli who joined her, greatly advising on decisions within the Prada company. As she went about changing the label into what it is today, she went on to release the classic Prada handbag which was made from simple black nylon, and in 1985 it became an overnight success.

Prada then followed up on this with its pret-a-porter collection - elegant, simple pieces featuring clean lines, luxurious fabrics, and simple colors. The fashion world took notice, and Prada's popularity carried on rocketing up.

Within 2 years, Miuccia won two fashion awards awards, in 1993 she received an international reward from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and then in 1995 she also won the "Designer of the Year" Award. Since then, Prada has gone on to open boutiques in dozens of cities and countries worldwide. Miuccia is attributed to using many new fabrics and accessories on making fashion accessories in the entire Prada ranges. A typical Prada handbag is usually made of materials like deerskin, leather, calfskin and fox fur trim whereas the strap hooks, buckles and clasps are generally made of silver or gold.

Dodge La Femme

Origin

The La Femme's Raison D'tre stemmed from Chrysler's marketing department's observation that more and more women were taking interest in automobiles during the 1950s, and that women opinions on which color car to buy was becoming part of the decision making process for couples buying an automobile. The La Femme was an attempt to gain a foothold in the women's automobile market.

The La Femme concept was based upon two Chrysler show cars from the 1954 season. Named Le Comte, and La Comtesse, each was built from a Chrysler Newport hardtop body, and each was given a clear plastic roof over the entire passenger compartment. While the Le Comte was designed using masculine colors, the La Comtesse was painted "Dusty Rose" and "Pigeon Grey" in order to convey femininity. Favorable responses encouraged Chrysler to pursue the La Comtesse concept.

1955

Dodge received the project and renamed the concept the La Femme, which began as a 1955 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer "spring special" hardtop two-door coupe, painted "Sapphire White" and "Heather Rose". From there, the exterior received special gold-colored "La Femme" scripts that replaced the standard "Custom Royal Lancer" scripts on the cars front fenders.

The interior of the car also received attention and features. 1955 La Femme interiors were upholstered in a special tapestry material featuring pink rosebuds on a pale silver-pink background and pale pink vinyl trim. The La Femme also came with a keystone-shaped, pink calfskin purse that coordinated with the interior of the car. The purse could be stowed in a special compartment built into the back of the passenger seat, and its gold-plated medallion faced outward. This brushed-metal medallion was large enough to have the owner's name engraved upon it.

Each purse was outfitted with a coordinated set of accessories inside, which included a face-powder compact, lipstick case, cigarette case, comb, cigarette lighter and change purse, all made of either faux-tortoiseshell plastic and gold-tone metal, or pink calfskin and gold-tone metal, and all were designed and made by vans, which was a maker of women's fine garments and accessories in Chicago, Illinois.

On the back of the drivers seat was a compartment that contained a raincoat, rain bonnet and umbrella, all made from a vinyl patterned to match the rosebud interior fabric. Dodge marketing brochures for the La Femme stated clearly that the car was made "By Special Appointment to Her Majesty... the American Woman."

1956

For 1956, the La Femme returned, with no less fanfare; letters to dealers from Dodge marketing department called the La Femme a "stunning success". For 1956, Dodge replaced the Heather Rose and Sapphire White scheme with a Misty Orchid and Regal Orchid color scheme. The interior of the car in 1956 did not take its cue from the 1955 model, and instead featured "La Femme" only seat patterns, headliner, interior paint and carpet. The fabrics used have proven very difficult to reproduce. The seat coverings were made of a heavy white cloth with random, organic-seeming patterns of short lavender and purple loops, in a manner very similar to loop-pile carpeting. The headliner cloth was also heavy white fabric, with many, tiny random splashes of gold paint. The carpeting was loop pile with several shades of lavender and purple. The boxes behind the seats were also changed for 1956 to accommodate the rain coat, rain cap and umbrella that came with the model. Both boxes were identical this year, because there was no need for accommodation for a purse, which was only offered with the 1955 La Femme.

Legacy

Sales material for the 1956 Dodge La Femme

Dodge dropped the La Femme for 1957 and did not revisit the concept. Because the La Femme was a $143 option package, its total production was never broken out from Dodge's production numbers, although research suggests less than 2500 were made over the two-year period. At least 40 known examples exist of the 1955 version and over 20 for the 1956 version, including at least 3 verifiable D-500 optioned 1956 La Femmes.

Many theories exist concerning the low sales of the LaFemme trim package. No evidence of magazine, television, radio or other LaFemme advertisements have ever been found since 1986. Given the large number of Dodge dealerships in the U.S. at the time, very few of them ever received a demonstration LaFemme for their showroom. Instead, single-sheet dealer pamphlets were the only clue that Dodge LaFemmes were available for purchase, in a time when other trim-special models such as the Chrysler 300 letter series, Plymouth Fury and DeSoto Adventurer were widely and enthusiastically promoted.

Toy Planes or Lear Jets?

For decades and decades, you really didn't have a choice if you wanted to market Toy Planes or Lear Jets. If you wanted to earn income working a business from home, or outside of your job or career, you had to market low-ticket products. You know, Avon, Amway, Herbalife, Melalueca, Pre-Paid Legal...the list goes on and on. It should be easy to agree that marketing low ticket products means earning smaller commissions.

Let's be generous and say that the average price of one product in any of these type of companies is $100. Let's say they carry a 30% mark-up or profit margin - so your profit on any one sale is $30. But if you know anything about network marketing compensation plans, especially multi-level marketing ones - is that every single person in your upline gets a cut of that $30 profit.

So let's assume that your "leg" or line of sponsorship is 10 deep, which means that 10 people are going to split up that $30 depending on a certain 'percentage'. Some will get 25-40% of the $30, some will get 15-20% of the $30, and many will get 3-15% of the $30. 3% of $30 is.90 cents. You can see here with some simple math that if you're new, or at one of the smaller commission splits/levels, it's going to take A LOT of $30 profits or $100 sales for you to earn substantial income.

Of course, the explanation they will give you is that you'll personally consume 'hundreds' of dollars worth of products each month, you'll sell a couple hundred dollars worth, and your downline will produce LOTS and LOTS of sales that you'll benefit from. People - I have no other way to say this, but to be blunt. You're going to be making peanuts.

Sure, people need vitamins, and make up and other consumable products, and sure, people do buy toy planes. You could stand in a store for 8 hours per day selling dozens of planes per hour if you really wanted to. You would be dealing with screaming kids, stressed out parents, returns for broken wings, and all sorts of other headaches that comes from selling a product that costs a few bucks.

Did you know that people buy Lear jets every single day? Sure, the people who sell them get some specialized training to know how to sell them, but do you know how many sales these sales people need to earn a six figure income? 3-5 sales per year. That's one sale every couple months. They get to deal with a different class of people, sophisticated professionals, they get to fly them around the country on test flights, and they get to sit in the finest leather seats and get waited on my beautiful flight attendants hand and foot.

No drooling kids, no screaming, no stupid returns, complaints, or making a few bucks per sale on a silly little wooden toy plane. You're with the elite now, you're dealing with the best of the best.

Hey everyone! So in April of 2012, I'm going to Greece and Italy. I really want to get a nice camera, because of course I'll be taking tons of pictures. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should buy? I would prefer something lightweight, so I can just put it in my purse, and whip it out whenever I want to take a picture. I'm seeking specific product recommendations for things to simplify one's life and things easier and more organized. For example, things like a purse organizer, cell phone charging station or laptop docking station (but I imagine there must be lots of other products that I haven't thought of or even heard of). I am alway seeking ways to get more organized.

I love my Handspring Visor organizer/phone. I could easily go back to a paper organizer, but I've been using this system since 2001 and am very used to it.

I also love my hanging gift wrap organizer, my overdoor shoe organizer, and underbed storage boxes. For the bathroom, I have clear plastic trays in the medicine cabinet, that I actually bought at the supermarket! They are great for little bottles and tubes and stuff.

My filing cabinet's system is based on recommendations from the book "Taming the Paper Tiger" by Barbara Hemphill. I have an index of files, and that is indispensable.

I have a PurseBrite purse organizer, but honestly it's kind of bulky. It helps if you change purses and bags often, though.

If you like tips, I suggest signing up for some Professional Organizers' email newsletters. Many send them once a month, if you don't mind getting extra email.

When you're going on vacation to get away from it all, you don't want to leave safety behind. Whether you are traveling abroad or driving cross country, there are some things you can do to help ensure a safe and happy trip.

1. Prevention and preparation are worth their weight in gold.

Plan ahead in order to minimize problems that might crop up while you're away from home. Some of the steps you can take to be ready for emergencies include:

- Putting together a "medical envelope" for each member of your family. It should include a brief medical history, notes on any allergies, copy of your insurance card and proof of other medical insurance, as well as copies of prescriptions for regular medications and an extra prescription for eyeglasses just in case.

- Make copies of your passport, a list of the credit cards you are carrying and the phone number and instructions for notifying your credit card company if your cards are lost or stolen.

- Bring along a first aid/emergency kit that's geared for your trip. Depending on your plans, it may be as lightweight as your favorite pain reliever and some adhesive bandages for a trip to a metropolitan city, to a full-fledged first aid kit for car travel.

Buying A Drum Set

Buying a drum set for the first time can be an overwhelming experience. Drum sets come with so many parts within a broad price range that it can be difficult choosing what you need from what you do not, and what the difference is between drum set brands and price options.

The most important factors to consider when buying a drum set are: brand, price, the number of drum pieces needed/desired, the look of the drum set, and of course, the sound quality of the drum set.

Drums can be quite an expensive instrument to play when you start adding up all of the hardware, cymbals, and accessories, not to mention the cost of the drum set itself. You can expect to pay $400 - $800 for a new 5-piece kit or buy a used drum kit for $200-400, depending on the brand. Expect to pay another $400 - $600 for all the other hardware, cymbals and accessories that do not come with the drum set.

You may consider buying a used drum set when you are first starting out through your local classifieds, Craigslist.org, or your local music store. Buying a used drum set will be much less expensive, but you will need to check it for any cracks or broken hardware. If you buy a used drum set, you may also have to buy new drum heads for the set, which can cost up to $100 if the drum heads need replaced.

Most drum sets come as a 5-piece set: the bass drum, snare drum, floor tom, and two rack toms. Start with the bare minimum if cost is an important factor. If you are a newbie, you will be overwhelmed by too many pieces of drum equipment, even if you can afford them.

When buying a kick pedal for the bass drum, stick with a higher-end brand, such as DW, Yamaha, or Pearl. These higher-quality brands tend to last much longer. Cheaper brands will break or bend more easily.

There are two types of cymbals that you will need to purchase along with your new drum set – the crash cymbal and the ride cymbal. The crash cymbal makes the sound you hear after and in-between certain song parts (for emphasis), as well as during high-energy song parts. The ride cymbal often carries, or "rides" the song through the chorus, although both cymbals can serve different purposes and be combined in creative ways.

You also will need a pair of high-hat cymbals. High-hats make the "tss tss" sound and are controlled by a foot pedal on the high-hat stand, in addition to being hit with drum sticks or brushes.

Drum cymbals have different manufacturers who each produce different sounding cymbals. Take your time picking out cymbals and test out the sounds of each by playing them in the music store to see which sound you prefer. Good brands of cymbals include Zildjian, Alesis, Paiste and Sabian.

If you are having a hard time deciding which drum set to buy, many local music stores will rent drum sets – take a test drive on a few different sets to make sure you are purchasing the drum set that is right for you.

Double bass and splash cymbal questions?

i've had a drumset for just over 2 years now, but have been actually taking lessons for 8 months, i'm 13 years old and i want to buy a double bass pedal and a splash cymbal, i've been looking into tama iron cobra and a few pearl models, i want to buy it with the money i get for my birthday so i want it to be cheap enough, there's a great store near me that sells drum equiptment for a lower price, i just need to know which one is the best to get.For the splash i own a set of zildjian zbt cymbals( 13" hi-hats, 14" crash and 18" crash ride) i don't know if i should stick with the zbt models or change. Just go in and tell them what you want and what your price range is and they will be glad to help you get what you need. As far as cymbals go the Zildjians are great but you may want to checkout Sabian and Paiste too. You sound like you already have a good idea as to what you want so don't second guess yourself, just do your homework and make a good, informed decision.

Don't get any of that personalized crap. Get each wedding party member a gift that was chosen just for them. They're not all the same person, so you'll be hard-pressed to find something that they'll all love. I mean honestly, would you just love it if you received a mug as a gift? Probably not.

Think about something they would actually use to treat themselves. If one loves technology, what about a gift certificate to the Apple store or Best Buy? Would one like tickets to a sporting event? Would one like a gift certificate to a cooking class? Think about things like that.

History OF The Photo ID

“For Fast, Easy and Certain Identification, Nothing Bests a Photograph”

On October 9th, 1804, the Governor of Massachusetts issued a passport to a man claiming to be Joseph Warren Revere, the son of famous patriot Paul Revere.  The passport did not include any description, signature and certainly no photograph of Joseph Revere.

Six month later, in England, the same man applied for another passport, offering as documentation his first passport and a letter of introduction allegedly from his father. The Charge d’ Affaires of the U.S Legation issued the passport on March 15, 1805.  This time the document, signed by Joseph Revere, included a brief description of him.

Were these passports issued to the same man, the man claiming to be Joseph Warren Revere, son of Paul Revere? The Governor of Massachusetts may have been able to vouch for Revere’s identity, but could the same be said of the Charge d’ Affaires in London and the Consul in Rotterdam? Could the man described by the Charge d’ Affaires as being “rather light” in complexion, with a “common” forehead and “large” chin, be described just three weeks later as having a “brown” complexion, with a “low” forehead and “normal” chin?

In fact, the holder of these passports was precisely who he said he was – Joseph Warren Revere, son of the famous patriot. But the discrepancies in the documents, their lack of positive identification and their susceptibility to damage, forgery, alteration and misappropriation, highlight challenges that still confront modern identification technology.  Are we who we say we are? Can we prove it? Can the identifying document be produced easily, quickly and inexpensively? Is it functional and say to use? Is it durable and permanent?

The concern for positive identification is a relatively recent phenomenon. For most of recorded history there was little need for positive identification because people rarely traveled beyond their own town or province.  When they did, there was little point in carrying identification documents because most people couldn’t reed or write.

Nevertheless, for the elite engaged in foreign travel, the use of passports can be traced to 450 B.C.  According to the Bible (Nehemiah 2.7), the King of Persia issued a passport to Nehemiah, the governor he appointed to rule Palestine: “If it please the King, let letters be given me to the governors of the province Beyond the River that they may let me pass through until I come to Judah.”

Prior to 1796 U.S. passports did not contain descriptions of their bearers, probably because they were assumed to be “gentlemen” whose moral standards would preclude misrepresentation and for whom an inspection of their physical features would be considered as insult.

Times and moral coded change. At the end of the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress created the Department of Foreign Affairs (later to become the Department of the State) responsible for, among other things, the granting of passports.  As of 1976, U.S. passports issued abroad were required to contain physical descriptions. In 1811, the same requirement was extended to passports issued in Washington.

Local and state authorities issued passports until 1856, when Congress restricted to function to the federal Department of State.  Except for periods of war, passports were not required for international travel until 1914: until then they were merely government-to –government requests for safe passage and assistance for their citizens.

Introduction of Photography
With the invention of practical portrait photography by Louis Daguerre in 1839, in became possible to created true and defining photographs of people.  But even the greater of inventions take time to spread throughout society.  Photography remained a complicated and specialized process with few practitioners until 1888 when George Eastman introduced the Kodak Box Camera No. 1.  The camera came loaded with film and was returned to the factory for processing, printing and reloading.  In the first two years 1000,000 cameras were sold.

One of the earliest implementations of identification photography was a 1906 test by the U.S. War Department to add photographs to personnel records.

It wasn’t until 1915 that photographs were required comports of U.S passports. Until that time U.S. passports where printed on a single sheet of paper and contained essentially the same information as the design, ornamentation and the use of seals.  Six years later passports were printed on watermarked paper to guard against fraudulent alteration.

On the home front, to prevent spies, saboteurs and “fifth columnists” from infiltrating defense plants and other industries supporting wartime production, the government ordered employers to photograph and fingerprint all workers with access to sensitive areas and issue them photo identification documents that could be easily checked by security personnel. For most employers, this was the first time employee security and identification became a major issue in the workplace.

Unlike the armed forces identification effort, where a single department determined how the order would be satisfied, implementation was left in the hands of employers, subject to the approval of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  The Order proved somewhat difficult to carry out.

Some employers acted independently. Others, such as 157 companies in Racine, Wisconsin, formed a Manufactures Association that issued a standard identification document to all Racine defense workers led to two popular solutions – the photo button and the photo ID card.  Scores of homemade and commercial camera systems where developed for these purpose.

Photo buttons came in a variety of shapes, usually 1 ½ - 2 inches in diameter and were constructed of two diameter and were constructed of two pieces of brass.  The rear plate was solid metal, onto which was placed a photograph and acetate cover.  The brass cover plate was open in the middle to let the photo show through and had the name and location of the company embossed around its front perimeter.  The entire assembly was inserted into the hand press that bent the cover plate rim around the rear plate.  Any attempt to remove the acetate or pry open the brass was easily spotted.

While companies could send their employees to local photographers to have their portraits taken, many sought out a system that kept the photographic process under their own control, maximizing security, reducing costs, and keeping their workers on site.

Early ID Systems
One high volume ID camera developed for the war effort was the Graflex identification Unit, developed by the Folmer Graflex Corporation of Rochester, N.Y. It had a prefocused 75mm lens and an interchangeable film magazine holding up to 100 feet of 35mm film.  A fully loaded camera could take up to 800 portraits without reloading.

The Graflex camera was attached to an adjustable platform that could be raised or lowered to accommodate the subject, who was photographed standing in front of a height chart with their chest pressed against the front of the platform.  Facing the camera at the end of the platform was an ID holder; under normal operation conditions the system could photograph 200 people per hour.  One user was reported to have photographed as man as 480 people an hour.

Companies that didn’t have access to the Graflex camera or a similar unit, or couldn’t afford such a systems came up with their own solutions.  One such company was the Columbian Steel Tank Co. of Kansas City, Missouri.

In an article reprinted in several industrial publications in 1942, advertising manager R.S. Robinson described in detail how Columbian had pieced together a camera system similar in design and function to the Graflex system. Equipped with a $6.35 Kodak Brownie Reflex camera, a window shade for a backdrop, two lighting stands, lights and a die cutter, the total system cost was $30.  Each stopping to reload after every 12 photographs, the system was able to photograph 60 to 75 employees per hour – and like a Murphy bed, fold against the wall when not in use.

The Graflex, Columbian and other similar systems took head-and-shoulder portraits to create photo buttons and composite identification cards.  For organizations wanting a more secure identification card, cameras and systems were developed that would produce a one-piece, all-photo card.

Typical of these was to two-camera system built by Sam Kitrosser to produce identity cards for the Massachusetts Committee on Public Safety.  Kitrosser built a box equipped with portrait and document lights and two Ansco Memo single frame 35mm cameras mounted near the top.  One camera (loaded with portrait film) faced the subject and the other (loaded with high contrast copy film) shot into a mirror that reflected down into the inside of the box. Placed on the bottom was the subject’s data sheet.

Each camera had film plane masks, one to block out all but the portrait area and the other to block the portrait, permitting the data sheet to be photographed.  By sandwiching both negative together, they could be simultaneously printed to produce an all-photo ID card with data and portrait on a single sheet of photographic paper.  As a one-piece card, it was very hard to switch portraits without the attempt becoming obvious.

In a four-month period in 1942, Kitrosser and his assistant, and four other teams equipped with his identification system, criss-crossed Massachusetts, producing 250,000 identity cards for police, fire, mass transit and other engaged in civil defense and public safety work. 

The Monroe Duo-Camera
While the Kitrosser system and others like it produced a one-piece photo card from sandwiched negatives, a one-piece negative would be more secure.  The October 1941 issue of Photo Technique magazine reported on a system, called the Monroe Duo-Camera, that may well be considered the first modern photo identification system.

Developed by Spencer F. Monroe and marketed by the National Photo Identity Corp of Chicago, the one-step Monroe system produced a one-piece negative and embodied all the core functions of today’s most advanced film-based, central issuance identification systems

The article explained that Monroe got the idea for the camera in 1937 when he tried to cash a $200 expense check at a Miami hotel.  When the cashier asked for identification, Monroe emptied the contents of his wallet on the counter. The skeptical cashier responded. “Mister, all of these cards and things might have been picked off of somebody on the street”.

Monroe finally convinced the cashier of his identity by showing him a newspaper clipping that contained his photograph.

The experience led Monroe to develop a camera system that could simultaneously photograph on a single negative a portrait, signature, and thumb print and written data.  Four years later, in the midst of the concern for national security, the Monroe Duo-Camera entered the market.

The Monroe camera was equipped with two Wollensak fixed focus lenses, three portrait lights and two internal document lights.  The ingenious set-up placed the lenses on opposite sides of the film.  The portrait lens photographed the subject and projected the image onto the front of the film while the document lens projected the information sheet image off of a mirror and onto the back of the film.  Careful masking prevented the images form interfering with each other.

The Monroe camera held 200 feet of 35mm film and was said to be able to photograph an individual in five seconds and about 250 people in an hour.

The unidentified author of the 1941 article acknowledged the importance of photo identification to the war effort, but added this astute prediction about the Monroe photo identification system: “…probably the real future of the device lies in its ability to identify people in their picture helped Mr. Monroe to get his check cashed.”

In fact, photo ID cards have changed little in appearance since World War II.  Most, then as now, contain the holder’s photo, personal information, an identification number, an organizational logo, and the signature of an issuing officer. What has changed since the mid 40’s are the methods of production and security and functional features. 

Specialized Id Development
The first mayor post-war improvement in photo identification was the 1948 introduction of the Polaroid Land Model 95 instant camera.  First offered to the public in a Boston department store, the camera developed sepia colored pictures in one minute. Most of the demonstration pictures were of customers standing in front of a blank wall and staring into the camera, just as they would if the picture was to be used for an identification card.  In fact, standard Polaroid consumer cameras were used for composite ID card.

The first attempt to turn the standard camera into a more specialized identification product was the 1952 introduction of the Fairchild-Polaroid Id Camera, producing for Id photos on a single sheet of instant Polaroid film.  The Fairchild camera utilized the Model 95 camera back, containing the instant film transport and development system, and replaced the Polaroid lens/shutter assembly with a Wollensak assembly, stereo image splitter and shift lever.

With the lens assembly shifted down, the stereo splitter sent two side-by-side images through the lens and projected them onto the top half of the film.  Without advancing the film the assembly was shifted into its upward position and a second exposure was made, exposing tow new images on the bottom half of the film.

The Fairchild system camera sat on a tripod equipped with tow portrait lights extended right and left and a name plate/ID number holder in front of the camera.  The subject stood in front of a white pull-down screen with his chest placed against the name plate.  The camera could create dual portraits of tow individuals per minute, and allowing 10 minutes for reloading the camera, photograph 100 people in an hour.

In 1955 Polaroid introduced its own beam-splitter lens attachment, called the Stereo-Tech, which required no modifications to the standard Model 95 camera and produced two Id portraits on a single sheet of instant film.

Sam Kitrosser, who had developed a war-time ID camera system, worded for Polaroid after the war and then joined Itek Corp.  In 1961 he developed the Quad Camera for Itek, a four-lens affair that used the workhorse Polaroid Model 95 instant camera back as its film system.  The quad camera employed high-quality lenses and a professional viewing optic that made good use of studio lighting, as well as camera-mounted lights.  A lens cover system allowed the operator to take any or all of the four pictures at the same time.

My customer was grousing, "It isn't fair to call our buyer prospects liars, they don't tell us much about themselves. Our salespeople say these buyer prospects are not qualified, so they must be lying."

I replied, "It isn't that buyer is lying about their needs. They just don't feel compelled to tell you the truth. Maybe you haven't asked your questions the right way."

There are five sure-fire ways to get a buyer to share their buying intentions. If you use these procedures to get a buyer to reveal themselves, your marketing efforts will be fruitful, salespeople will love you, and your prospects will appreciate how much you understand their needs.

1. Steal Your Salespeople's Best Questions

Other than need, desire, time frame and budget, if you don't know what questions to ask your prospective buyer, ask your salespeople. They've learned the questions that separate the serious buyer from the tire-kicker, namely those who want a solution but don't have the money or the authority to buy.

2. Pose the Questions - Don't Be Timid

Most marketers either don't ask any questions of a buyer, or they ask too many. Whether in a reply card, splash pages on the Web or a trade show lead form, inexperienced marketers usually make the following mistakes:

o They think they're getting too personal when they ask a buyer questions.

o They ask only how soon someone will buy, because nothing else matters to the salespeople.

o They ask a buyer too many questions at one time.

These errors are all equally bad. If you fail to ask a buyer questions, you're doomed to ignorance. Asking only about budget and time frame invites a prospective buyer to lie. Asking too many questions on a reply card or a splash page, requiring a prospective buyer to scroll down three times to answer every question, also dooms you to failure. The potential buyer may get aggravated and click through.

3. Build Profiles Over Time

The best profiles are the result of mutual sharing. The potential buyer wants a product or service and is willing to share information, such as the number of companies his or her company owns, their application, customers served, failure of their current vendor or product, etc. You can't ask all these questions up front, but you can ask two or three at each prospective buyer. For instance:

o Begin by asking three to six profile questions with your first contact (Web or business reply card).

o Ask one or two more questions during follow-up contacts (i.e., on Web splash pages, via phone or at trade shows).

o Another question or two can be asked in e-mail returns.

o Lastly, ask one or two questions of a buyer when they subscribe to an online or printed newsletter.

Don't be greedy and try to obtain all the information from the prospective buyer in one BRC (business reply card) or splash page. If you are going to make the sale, it will take three to six touches (sales calls, phone calls and e-mails) to do it. Be patient but persistent.

4. Send Literature to Those Who Deserve It

A marketing director once said to me, "If I sent literature to everyone who asked for it, I wouldn't have the money to generate more leads."

This person's products sell for more than $10,000, so a $1.50 brochure and a $2 fulfillment cost should be within the budget.

The point is that 45 percent of the prospective buyers who inquire will buy your product or a competitor of yours within 12 months. If you're stingy and don't send literature, you're inviting a competitor to better serve the prospective buyer. I say send to everyone who inquires. There are exceptions for low-priced products available on the Web via a retail outlet. Certainly, if your product costs $100, you can't afford to spend $4 to $6 on printing and mailing per fulfillment package.

5. Use a Scoring System

Once you get the answers to your questions from a prospective buyer, salespeople will ask you to score and categorize your prospects. Scoring is good for both the marketing and sales efforts. For salespeople, scoring means they get the "immediate-need" or "hot" inquirers. Those who aren't in the throes of a final decision are often held off for nurturing by an inside sales group or even an outside telesales company. For the marketing department, scoring means it can customize communications to prospective buyers based on score results.

The weakness of many scoring systems is that the screening process is set too tightly, and a prospective buyer is screened out, because the person doesn't plan to buy within three to six months. To solve some of these complaints, I recommend:

o choosing a scoring system that, due to design, dictates who (sales or marketing) will pursue a buyer in a specified period of time;

o making all potential buyers visible to all salespeople as soon as possible.

Following is an example of a good scoring system:

o AA for Qualified: 20+ points, you must call within 24 hours;

o A for Hot: 10-19 points, call within three days;

o B for Warm: 5-10 points, call within 10 days;

o C for Cold (not dead); 4 points or less, no further action needed right now.

Answers to questions such as those below can drive the point values:

o Need? Less than 3 months = 20 points; 3-6 months = 15 points; 6-12 months = 10 points

o Decision-Maker? 5 points

o Have budget? 10 points

o Currently using a competitive product? ___ Yes (5 points); ___ No (3 points)

oNumber of units desired. ___ 100 (5 points)

It is the combination of answers to these questions that determines whether a lead is a qualified buyer or a cold inquirer.

These five procedures are easy to implement and are replicable across product lines. Ask salespeople what they need to know about a buyer, ask your qualifying questions, build profiles, send literature and use a scoring system. It's easy and rewarding.

question about what to get for drum set?

i might be getting something to add to my drum set but i am not sure whether to choose cymbals or a 4th tom. i currently have 2 crashes, a ride, 2 rack toms and 1 floor tom. should i get one more rack tom or get 2 more crashes and a splash cymbal?

the answer to your question is whatever you prefer! personally, i prefer to upgrade my cymbals. i have 3 toms, and that is plenty for my style of playing. if you utilize you 3 toms and constantly finding yourself wishing you had a 4th, def pick one up. but they're obvisouly more expensive to buy a single tom. i usually only play with 2 toms, so obviously a 4th woul dbe a waste of money for me.

but if you decide to go with some new cymbals, go with some quality ones. and maybe vary it up a bit, get a china, or maybe even a crash/ride.

The practice of sewing, as in using thread and needle to attach various kinds of material, has been dated to at least 20,000 years ago. Sewing is practically a universal occurrence, and the actual beginnings of it stretch back to the beginnings of history. It predates the weaving of cloth by many centuries, and was used to stitch together hides, furs, and bark for clothing and other uses.

Early sewing needles were made from bone, wood, or natural needles taken from plants as Native Americans did with the agave plant. The earliest verified sewing needles made from iron date back to the third century B.C.E. and were found in what is now Germany. Chinese archaeologists report finding a complete set of iron sewing needles and thimbles in a tomb dating from the Han Dynasty (202 BC-AD 220) in China. This is the earliest known example of a thimble in history. The thimble was developed to assist early sewers to push needles through thick hides and furs, and was first made from bone, wood, leather, sometimes glass and porcelain. Later thimbles began to be made from metal, and before the 18th century dimples in a thimble had to be punched into it by hand. The thimble also became an object of beauty with thimbles made from precious and semi-precious stones, and precious metals.

The first thread was made from plant fibers and animal sinew, which was used to sew together hides and furs for clothing, blankets and shelter. Later it was found that fibers from plants and animals could be spun together to make thread. The ancient Egyptians made thread by spinning these fibers together, and devised methods of dying the thread using berries and plant matter. In China and Japan, silk fibers taken from the cocoon of the silk worm was spun to make very fine thread.

For most of the history of sewing, it was done by hand. From the simplest stitches to ornate decorative work was done with a needle, thread and a steady hand. It remained so until the first patent for a machine that "emulated hand sewing" in 1790 in England. It is not known whether there ever was a machine built from the 1790 patent.

The first functioning sewing machine was issued a patent to Barthelemy Thimonnier in France in 1830. It used a single thread and a hooked needle to make a chain stitch similar to the one used in hand embroidery. The inventor was nearly killed when enraged French tailors rioted and burned down his garment factory because they feared the machine would cause unemployment. In 1846 the American Elias Howe was issued a patent for his machine, but the mass production of the machines did not happen until the 1850's when Isaac Singer built the first truly successful sewing machine. With needle, thread, thimble and machine, the art and craft of it has not only formed items for our use and comfort. Sewing has helped form civilization itself.

Makeup organizer/carrier Ideas?

So I usually put my makeup in a little pouch or pocket of my purse. Everytime, the eyeshadow ends up breaking for some reason and getting ALL over the rest of my makeup. Of course, other things are get open and smear as well. My brand-new makeup of one week looks old and gross. Are there any other suggestions on how I can organize my makeup? Where can I get a box to seperate tounge rings, lip rings etc?

I have one right now with little dividers in it, but its too small. It has like 6 spaces or something in it, but I have 11 piercings and like to keep my stuff seperate. Any ideas? Don't say use a fishing box or anything because thats not what I want. I want something to fit in my purse. Not like a bead organizer either.

The only other option I can think of would be a pill box. You can check in the craft stores for a generic box with separators.
